FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Director, Energy Institute
University of California, Davis
Position Description: The University of California, Davis,
seeks an internationally recognized expert in energy science, technology,
or policy to lead the newly established UC Davis Energy Institute
as Institute Director. With a long tradition of excellence in energy
research, education, and service, UC Davis has made a major commitment
to "Energy for the Future" for advancing new energy initiatives
and extending the frontiers of sustainable energy development. The
Institute Director will join an exciting and enriching academic environment
with well established programs ranging from fundamental energy science
to applications in renewable energy, transportation, environment,
energy efficiency, and policy. The Director will also help build campus
strengths through the creation of new centers of excellence and a
new graduate group offering advanced degrees in energy. California
is clearly a leader in energy technology and policy and UC Davis is
a leader in California. Our goal is for UC Davis to become one of
the strongest and most comprehensive energy research universities
in the world.
The Director will provide strong leadership in organizing and managing
the Institute's interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach
efforts. The Director will be assisted by an executive director and
other staff comprising part of the Institute's administrative structure.
In guiding the Institute's development, the Director will interact
with a talented and diverse faculty offering broad undergraduate and
graduate curricula and with scientists at other institutions, government
officials, industry executives, and many others working in energy-related
fields. The Director will serve an integral role in formulating and
implementing strategic plans for campus energy programs and in communicating
with multiple stakeholders. The incumbent will actively participate
in undergraduate and graduate teaching, conduct research, and provide
service to the public.
Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must have a Ph.D.
degree or equivalent in a relevant energy-related field, outstanding
leadership and administrative experience, an excellent record of accomplishment
in teaching, research, and extension or outreach, and demonstrated
ability to initiate, coordinate, and conduct research and educational
programs in one or more areas of energy science, technology, or policy.
The applicant must be qualified to be appointed to the tenured title
of Associate or Full Professor in one or more of the departments that
are key to the Institute's programs. The applicant must also have
exceptional interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to
work effectively with individuals representing a diversity of backgrounds,
interests, and positions both within and outside the University of
California. Demonstrated skill in obtaining extramural funds is expected.
