About Waukesha-Pearce
Ind.
1924
- The Texas oilfield boom was at a peak and an enterprising businessman
saw the need for a prime mover for a small oilfield drilling rig.
Louis M. Pearce, Sr. founded the Portable Rotary Rig Company, the
forerunner of the flourishing enterprise that today is known world-wide
as Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc.
1933
- The future was shaped when Mr. Pearce negotiated the Texas distributorship
of Waukesha engines with the Waukesha Motor Company of Waukesha,
Wisconsin. (Despite the similarity of corporate identification,
there is no proprietary link between Waukesha-Pearce Industries,
Inc. and the Waukesha Motor Company) The company's first branch
operation was opened at Greggton, Texas.
In
1934, Louis M. Pearce, Jr. joined the company. World War II - The
company ended its manufacture of drilling rigs and became Waukesha
Sales & Service, Inc. Additional branches were opened at Dallas,
Wichita Falls, Corpus Christi and Odessa, Texas and New Iberia and
Shreveport, Louisiana.
1950's
- Accurately predicting a decline in oil exploration activity, Louis
Pearce, Jr. shifted the accent of the company's endeavors to the
newly emerging natural gas transmission industry. Another move toward
diversification came in 1955 with the formation of Pearce Equipment
Company to market and service construction machinery. Branches in
San Antonio and Abilene were opened in 1955.
1962
- Louis M. Pearce, III joined the company.
1967
- Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc. was created by merging Waukesha
Sales & Service and Pearce Equipment Company. The previous companies
became operating divisions.
1970's
- New branches were opened in Oklahoma City and Woodward, Oklahoma
in 1970 and Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1974.
In
1972, Pearce Industries, Inc. was formed and became the parent company
of WPI and Texas Iron Works.
1980's
- In 1986, WPI acquired the assets of Plains Machinery Company.
A new branch was opened in Austin, Texas in 1985.
In
1989, WPI acquired the assets of W. W. Williams Co.
1990's
- WPI acquired the assets of Houston Heavy Equipment in 1990. A
branch was opened in Beaumont, Texas in 1996.
As
WPI approaches three quarters of a century of growth and service
to our customers, our commitment to provide world-class products
backed up by world-class product support stands as strong today
as it was in 1924 when the company was founded.
Today,
WPI is made up primarily of two different divisions, the Engine
Division and the Construction Division. Together we make Waukesha-Pearce
Industries, Inc. - The Power People.
WPI
Engine Division
Waukesha-Pearce's reputation for superior quality and responsive
service has been 70 years in the making. Since 1924, Waukesha-Pearce
has been designing, packaging, and servicing all types of rotating
equipment, including generators, pumps, blowers, and gas compressors.
There were six of us when we first started out. Back then our company
fleet consisted of a single Ford Model T (retrofitted - of course
- with a dependable Waukesha engine). Today we're WPI, Waukesha-Pearce
Industries, the world's largest Waukesha distributor and representative
for many of the finest manufacturers in our field. Our 14 Southwestern
US locations employ more than five hundred engineering, technical,
packaging, production and support personnel. All over the world,
Waukesha-Pearce systems are at work. From landfills to hospitals,
breweries to waste water treatment plants, production platforms
to refineries, WPI packages are quietly living up to their reputation.
Throughout the years, we've maintained a simple, but unwavering
commitment to our customers: WE SERVICE WHAT WE SELL, AND WE
DO THIS BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.
The
Construction Machinery Division of Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc.
was formed in 1955. More than forty years later, the division is
recognized as an industry leader among construction and mining equipment
distributors. In fact, WPI's Construction Machinery Division is
frequently ranked as the largest distributor of Komatsu products
in the U.S.
Komatsu
America International's highest award, the Chairman's Award for
Excellence, has been given to WPI CMD for 1994,1995, 1996, 1997,
and 1998. WPI CMD distributes Komatsu's full line of utility, construction
and mining equipment, including crawler dozers that range from the
smallest unit marketed by a major manufacturer in North America,
model D21A-7 rated at 40 horsepower, to the world's largest dozer
the Komatsu D575A-2 Super Dozer rated at 1,150 horsepower, and weighing
over 314,000 pounds. But the products do not stop with dozers. Also
available are a full line of Komatsu wheel loaders, hydraulic excavators,
motor graders, mobile crushers and off highway mining trucks.
WPI
CMD is also a distributor for DressTa dozers and wheel loaders,
Galion cranes and motor graders. DressTa and Galion are part of
the Komatsu family of fine products.
Other
products available from WPI CMD are Bomag compaction units, Gradall
extendable boom excavators, Kolberg Pioneer Inc. crushers, conveyors
and screens, JCI Crushers, LaBounty shears and various attachments
from ESCO, Pierce Pacific, Young Corp., JRB, Hensley, Mega and Allied.
But
fine products do not tell the whole story of WPI's Construction
Machinery Division. Product support after the sale is the key to
why so many of our customers come back to us again and again. A
"can-do" attitude prevails among all of our product support
personnel and customers have come to expect and receive the best.
Our Project 2000 is designed to develop innovative ways to stay
on the leading edge of product support.
Rounding
out our offering to the utility, construction and mining markets
are rental machines that can be rented for a short term or purchased
on a rent-to-own plan. Financing options of all kinds are available.
WPI's
Construction Machinery Division - Outstanding products, outstanding
people, outstanding service.
